Shehu Week 2026 Continues in Katsina with Scholarly Discourses on Peace, Faith and Legacy

Activities at the 2026 edition of Shehu Week continued on Monday with a series of scholarly lectures, Qur’anic recitations and spiritual sessions, as Islamic scholars from across Nigeria converged on Katsina for the second day of the annual programme.
Proceedings for the day commenced with opening prayers led by Imam Malam Zubairu Mara, followed by a recitation from the Glorious Qur’an by Alaramma Ibrahim Baffa Katsina, who sought divine blessings for the success of the gathering.
The Chairman of Majma’u Ahbabu, Katsina State chapter, introduced the first paper presenter, Professor A. A. Mashi, who delivered a lecture titled “The Love of Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse (RTA) and the Historical Legacy of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).” The paper was reviewed and commented upon by Dr. Sanusi Bala.
This was followed by a brief scholarly contribution from Sheikh Goni, Dr. Muneer Sheikh Ja’afar Katsina. Thereafter, the management of the Katsina Institute of Technology and Management (KSITM), the host institution for the programme, delivered a goodwill message expressing appreciation for the choice of the institution as venue for the event.
The second lecture of the day was presented by Sheikh Khalifa Muhammadu Nazir of Kofar Baru, Daura, focusing on the role of Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse (RA) in instilling peace and calm in the hearts of leaders during periods of crisis. The paper was reviewed by Sheikh Khalifa Mansur of Kofar Arewa, Daura.
The third paper was delivered by Khalifa Sheikh Hassan Waddu Shagamu, who spoke on “Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse Al-Kawlakhy and His Caliphs in Nigeria.” Commentary on the paper was provided by Sheikh Abdulkarim Danjume, Khalifa of Sheikh Malam Ishaq Rafin Dadi.
The session later featured Islamic poets (Sha’irais) who rendered devotional poems in praise of Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse (RA), including Malam Usman Jari, popularly known as Kakan Sha’irais.
After the Zuhr prayer, the programme resumed with a lecture by Sheikh Imam Mustapha Mukhtar Agege on “Truthfulness and Sincerity in Friendship According to Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse Al-Kawlakhy.” The paper was reviewed by Sheikh Dr. Muhammad Ghali Auwal.
The fifth lecture was presented on behalf of Sayyida Hindu, daughter of Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, by Sheikh Dahir Muhammad Lawan, focusing on “Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse’s Commitment to Women’s Qur’anic Education.” Sheikh Nazeer Nasir Sheikh Ja’afar provided scholarly remarks on the presentation.
Following the Asr prayer, organisers announced the absence of the scheduled final speaker, Sheikh Harisu Salihu of Jos. Consequently, Maulana Sheikh Goni Dr. Muneer Sheikh Ja’afar Katsina (Hafizahullah) delivered the concluding lecture on “The Spread of the Faidhah of Sheikh Ibrahim Niasse (RA) Across Nigeria.” The paper was reviewed by Sheikh Dr. Aminu Abdullahi Sufi of Sokoto, alongside Malam Abdulwahab Ladan.
The second day of the programme attracted prominent personalities, traditional title holders and scholars, including the Madawakin Katsina, Alhaji Hamza Abubakar Duwan, among other dignitaries.
Participants expressed satisfaction with the depth of knowledge and spiritual benefits gained from the sessions. The gathering concluded with closing prayers led by Sheikh Mansur of Kofar Arewa, as attendees departed with renewed commitment to piety, Islamic scholarship and adherence to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
